Corporation for National and Community Service

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), a Federal agency that funds organizations that foster volunteerism throughout the United States, needed to train its AmeriCorps grantees, nationwide, to conform to complex Federal financial reporting and grant compliance guidelines. To ensure the success of this project, Walker & Company formed a training and technical assistance team with two other CPA firms - one from Oakland, CA, and the other from Milwaukee, WI - under a Cooperative Agreement with CNCS. We assigned seasoned nonprofit business expertise and financial management trainers, at full capacity, to lead, coordinate, and train more than 600 grantees at 100+ sites throughout the United States. As a result of our work, there were reduced financial and compliance audit findings during the period we provided these services; and grantees are now maintaining better financial management systems and have improved their financial reporting to CNCS.
